Supplies Checklist

  • Know how to stock your shelves with the items customers need!
When customers can buy everything they need in one place, the convenience can lead them to choose your store over amazon for the little things that add up.
  • Reduce overwhelm with an expert curated list
Buyers know exactly what they need before getting started. They wont be surprised half way through with an unexpected expense. A confused or overwhelmed buyer is less likely to act, even when the outcome is greatly desired and needed. By including a list of items for  to review ahead of time, customers will know if DIYing the project is a right fit.
  • Peace of mind making product decisions
Throughout the course our in-house experts explain what customers need to know before making purchase decisions each step along the way as well as how to use each item for best results. This resource can support retailers helping customers in-store!

Picking a Color

  • Customers will know what products are right for their project.
Working with a light colored paint? You will also need stain blocking primer. Want white cabinets? We'd recommend choosing Brushable White Enamel over Milk Paint. All of this and more is explained in our videos and written lesson content!
Many paints and sealants used for wooden surfaces were not engineered to endure the water and chemical exposure or wear and tear expected of kitchen cabinets. We help your customers know it's essential that they invest in the best if they don't want to be starting over again in a few years to deal with chipping cabinets.
  • Quality matters! They'll understand why.
Many paints and sealants used for wooden surfaces were not engineered to endure the water and chemical exposure or wear and tear expected of kitchen cabinets. We help your customers know it's essential that they invest in the best if they don't want to be starting over again in a few years to deal with chipping cabinets. Adding a durable topcoat over a low durability paint is not a solution to the problem.
  • Project inspiration helps guide decisions!
Your customers can access to our "Pinterest style" Design Center filled with projects completed by homeowners and professionals like them!

Picking a Topcoat Sheen

  • Your customers want a sealant that will stand the test of time.
We will help them know what to look for in a topcoat. The wrong topcoat, or the right topcoat applied wrong could require a complete cabinet refresh redo!
  • Topcoat, made simple!
General Finishes makes several topcoats, which can make choosing the right topcoat overwhelming to someone starting for the first time. We make the decision making process simple for homeowners and professionals!
  • Sometimes, topcoat is not required!
    LWe'll explain when and why.

The time depends on the surface area of your cabinets, the condition of the existing finish, whether you spray or brush, and what products and colors you choose. Each of the products we recommend in  the course take 2 hours to dry between coats, so you could complete more than one coat done in a day.

The kitchenette in this course took us 4 6-hour days to refinish with 2 coats of paint and 2 coats of topcoat, primarily by spraying,  but a larger kitchen can take anywhere from 2  to 3 weeks,

We'll recommend approaches that can save you time like using a spray gun and an electric sander.

Customer's Frequently Asked Questions

— Refinishing Cabinets —

How much will it cost?

This number varies by user and the size of the kitchen. The total cost will be determined by the square footage of your cabinet surfaces, the type of finish you want to use, the tools needed, and the color and condition of your existing cabinets.

For example, a spray gun will cost more than a brush  but it  will save a lot of time. If you are changing from a dark color to a light color, this may require more coats.

On average, the cost of product is typically around $200 and the cost of tools at least an additional $50. The average kitchen takes 2-3 gallons of paint.
